the world. It is known for its ancient monuments and its vibrant culture. From its past presidents to its

Egypt is known as one of the oldest civilizations in human history. The Ancient Egyptians developed a
sophisticated culture along with many advances such as writing, agriculture, art and architecture. They
are also credited with inventing many tools and techniques used today such as geometry, surveying,
masonry and irrigation systems. The ancient Egyptians were polytheistic, believing in multiple gods and
goddesses who ruled over different aspects of life. The most well-known god was Ra, the sun god who
was often depicted as a hawk-headed man. He was believed to have created all life on earth from his
tears.
Egypt has had many leaders throughout history including Pharaohs and modern day Presidents. The first
President of Egypt after gaining independence from Britain in 1922 was Saad Zaghloul Pasha who served
until 1924 when he died in office at age 62. Since then there have been various leaders including Gamal
Abdel Nasser (1954-1970), Anwar El Sadat (1970-1981) and Hosni Mubarak (1981-2011). In 2011
following Mubarak’s ouster during the Arab Spring uprising Mohamed Morsi was elected president but
he was overthrown by General Abdel Fattah el Sisi who has been President since 2014.
The Flag of Egypt features three equal horizontal bands – red on top symbolizing the struggle for
freedom, white in the middle representing peace and black at the bottom signifying oppression that
should be overcome by hard work for prosperity. In present day Egypt you can find bustling cities like
Cairo which is home to iconic landmarks like the Great Pyramids of Giza and Luxor Temple as well as
cultural sites like Khan el Khalili bazaar where visitors can buy textiles, jewelry and souvenirs from local
merchants. There are also plenty of beaches located along Egypt’s Mediterranean coastline making it an
ideal destination for beach lovers looking to relax or explore underwater ruins off shore via scuba diving
