Rwanda is a small country nestled in the heart of Africa. Despite its size, Rwanda has a rich history and
has become known for its strong economy, resilient people, and its commitment to peace. Let’s take a

The Rwandan flag is made up of three horizontal bands of blue, yellow, and green. It also bears a black
sun with 24 rays in the center to represent the 24 districts in the country. The national symbol of
Rwanda is an eagle holding a lightning bolt in its claws. This symbol was chosen to represent power and
strength as well as hope for a brighter future.
The first President of Rwanda was Juvénal Habyarimana who came into power in 1973 after staging a
military coup. He would remain President until his death in 1994 when he was assassinated which
sparked the Rwandan genocide. After Habyarimana’s death, Pasteur Bizimungu was elected President
and held office from 1994-2000. From 2000-2003 Paul Kagame served as acting president before being
officially elected president in 2003; he currently holds this position today.
Rwanda has seen significant economic growth over the past few years due to its focus on development
initiatives such as infrastructure building, agricultural reforms, and investment incentives for foreign
companies. As far as natural resources are concerned, Rwanda is rich in coltan ore (used to make
electronic devices) as well as other minerals such as gold and tin ore which are used for manufacturing
products like automobiles and jewelry. Additionally, Rwanda is home to Lake Kivu which provides
hydroelectric power for much of the country’s energy needs.
